Body. And. Soul.

The timeless beauty of a coupé combined with the intelligent functionality of an Avant: Its elegant balance between these apparent contradictions makes the new Audi A5 Sportback truly a dream car.

The finely drawn headlights harmonize with the horizontal lines of the front end.

Beauty, as we all know, lies in the eye of the beholder. It is subjective, a matter of personaltaste. But with cars whose physique is both dynamic and athletic, sporting an elegant roofline that swoops rearward, hardly anyone can disagree: Coupés are intrinsically beautiful. Perhaps the most beautiful cars of all. And with the Audi A5 Sportback, the designers have paired the emotional styling of a coupé with the functional qualities of an Avant—in a way that takes nothing away from the car’s power-packed look and feel in the slightest.

Timeless elegance, compelling performance.

As with the second-generation Audi A5 Coupé, the three-dimensional singleframe grille, the power dome on the hood, the flowing, 3-D shoulder line as well as the flared wheel arches on the new Audi A5 Sportback make a dynamic statement even before the car moves an inch. This seamless, flowing silhouette is also down to the slightly stretched wheelbase compared with the previous model, which also scores points on the interior: Greater shoulder and knee room coupled with the planar architecture of the instrument panel create a sense of spaciousness. With a generous 480 liters, the luggage compartment also has oodles of space to offer. Flawless workmanship and refined materials take the feel-good factor to a new level—as do optional ambient lighting and a range of assistance and infotainment options that cater to almost every conceivable need.

Well-balanced proportions sporting a signature shoulder line and coupé-style roof line: The Audi A5 Sportback is a masterful blend of technology and aesthetics.

Stand-out infotainment functions include the optional infotainment system MMI Navigation plus with MMI touch, which comes with 10 GB of flash storage and a DVD drive to ensure smooth and accurate service. The menu is displayed on a brilliant, high-resolution 8.3-inch monitor, and in razor-sharp detail on the optional 12.3-inch TFT screen featured in the Audi virtual cockpit. Making its debut in the Audi MMI Navigation plus is the “personal route assist” function. When activated, the navigation system makes a note of the routes and destinations the driver uses regularly, and links this information with the parking location and the time of day. This way, the system learns from the driver’s patterns and uses the data to suggest optimized routes for the next trip—even if destination guidance is inactive. Adaptive cruise control (ACC) Stop&Go including traffic jam assistant can also be activated to make the driver’s life easier. In slow-moving traffic at speeds of up to 65 km/h, it takes the load off the driver by braking and accelerating autonomously within system parameters and keeping the car on track for short periods on well-developed road and freeway networks. The optional predictive efficiency assistant and adaptive cruise control join forces to provide selective tips on how to save fuel.

Drivers of an Audi A5 Sportback equipped with Audi connect* get to enjoy numerous in-car digital services. These span the arc from navigation using Google Earth and Google Street View through online traffic updates all the way to Twitter. The functions that come with the optional “Audi connect safety & service” package are new. They include remote functions that let customers use the free Audi MMI connect smartphone app to check their vehicle’s status remotely, locate the vehicle with the Car Finder function and even lock or unlock the car.

Also part of the package are the new emergency call, online roadside assistance and Audi service request online functions. Talking of smartphones—the Audi A5 Sportback also offers excellent smartphone connectivity: iOS and Android handsets can be integrated into the MMI via the optional Audi smartphone interface. Those suitably equipped are connected wirelessly to the on-board antenna via the optional Audi phone box and simultaneously charged by induction.

Choose from twelve metallic paint finishes for the Audi A5 Sportback to make your own personal statement. The optional design and sport equipment lines include numerous other customization options.

At the rear end, an understated spoiler lip lends the car a look and feel that’s as sporty as it’s elegant. Rear lights featuring LED technology and dynamic turn signals are also optionally available. Just say the word and the new Audi A5 Sportback will lend support in the shape of cutting-edge assistance systems such as the predictive efficiency assistant, adaptive cruise control (ACC) Stop&Go including traffic jam assistant, parking assistant and camera-based recognition of traffic signs.

An expression of elegance driven by athleticism, the flowing silhouette hints at the Audi A5 Sportback’s choice of muscular power plants. Compared with predecessor units, all TDI and TFSI engines deliver an impressive boost in performance with lower emissions to match.

The new Audi A5 Sportback can also be transformed into a full-blown entertainment center with the optional Bang & Olufsen Sound System featuring 3D sound, and an amplifier feeding 775 watts of power to 19 loudspeakers.

The Audi A5 Sportback delivers peak performance even where it’s not immediately apparent. The body, which is 15 kg lighter than its predecessor, is combined with an elaborately fine-tuned chassis design. Five-link front and rear suspension units, the Audi drive select dynamic handling system and precision electromechanical power steering fitted as standard. For especially discerning drivers, comfort and agility can be further enhanced with adaptive dampers and a dynamic steering system. Thrust is generated by two TFSI and three TDI engines with power outputs ranging from 140 kW to 185 kW. Depending on the model and option selected, power is delivered by a six-speed manual transmission, seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission or eight-speed tiptronic. The 2.0-liter manual transmission units (TFSI and TDI) are optionally available with the new quattro ultra technology.
